When You Realize You Have An Obsession With A Certain Breed Type

2/20/2017

I always thought I was pretty open to all breeds of horses. I know certain collectors out there only collect certain types or avoid others all together, but my old collection was pretty diverse. As I started my new one, I didn't have any particular breed focus in mind and wanted to make sure my show string was spread out over all divisions so I wasn't competing against myself too much.

Well, I have come to realize I am very bad at that!

Breyer's First Web Special Of 2017: Rainier

It's not hard to see why everyone went a little crazy over the first web special of 2017 for Breyer Collector's Club members. The theme this year is "America the Beautiful" and it plans to showcase different parts of the country's natural landmarks. The first one is Rainier, named after the mountain in Washington state, on the ever-popular Othello mold. They chose to go with a blue roan tobiano and I think they chose very well. Only 350 were made and released lottery-style and I was lucky enough to have been drawn!

All in all, I'm thoroughly impressed. I plan to show him as a Drum Horse, which are usually gyspy vanner/shire crosses and there are very similar reference images I found that would be perfect for him. I can't wait to see how he does! He certainly is a gorgeous horse, and I'm interested to see the next three releases in this series. The second one should be coming out in March if they follow the same schedule they did the previous years, so we'll have to see!
I'm very happy with him to say the least! The Othello mold is my favorite Kathleen Moody mold (and I am not usually one for her sculpts, but he's irresistible). They did a similar roan style to Bramble, last year's first web special, which in my opinion is their best method so far. It doesn't, however, photograph very well indoors so outdoor pics were a must with this guy. My copy is pretty near perfect other than a couple of black marks in his whites, which are easy fixes I'm not too concerned about. The masking is crisp and they pulled his rather complex markings off very well.

An Introduction

2/14/2017

I suppose I should make an introductory blog post! This is my collection website to display and catalogue the model horses I own and their information as well as show placings they may have. I have been collecting since I was a little girl and amassed over 100 models but decided to sell them all off and start anew a couple years ago. I focus on specific things now instead of just collecting to collect and have also entered into the show circuit in my area (which is unfortunately pretty scarce). I also buy and sell models on a regular basis, whether it be one or two horses or partial collections I find.

As for my plans with this blog, I don't have any specific set up I'll be doing here but mostly using it as a place to talk about my thoughts and opinions about the model horse hobby as well as share my experiences within it. I don't expect a whole lot of people to read it but it's always nice to have a place to let your thoughts out. In any case, if you are reading this, I hope you enjoy my posts! :)
