I felt the need to make a post about this! I'm brimming with love for my family. I know some hobbyists out there struggle with family members or friends judging them for being in the model horse hobby and I feel lucky enough to not be one of those people. A hobby is a hobby, and it's meant to be enjoyed by the person in them. If someone has a weird or unusual hobby there is absolutely no reason to judge them for it so as long as it's a hobby that doesn't effect other people negatively. That's that!
I mentioned in my last post that my mom was coming with me to my next show (which is a little over a week away). I asked her if she wanted to come initially because it was next to her home town and thought we could make a bit of a weekend out of it and visit the places where she grew up, old friends, and stop by the graves of her parents (my grandparents) which are in a local cemetery there. She's not a horse person, let alone model horses, and this has always been my hobby alone in my family. So really, this was going to be a trip for her to catch up on things while I had my show.
What I didn't expect was her eagerness to be involved with the show itself and how excited she's gotten about it! She told me she has been watching a lot of tutorial videos and reading up on how to's and guidelines about model horse shows. She surprised me with a whole show package of things she learned about that I'd need. A nice table cloth, a whole arsenal of make up brushes, a huge horse breed book for documentation (even though I usually write and print my own), and even a coloring book titled "Let's Go to the Model Horse Show" by Sarah Tregay that we can work on between classes. My stepdad even constructed a model horse holder for me, felt-covered sides and all, all without me even asking.
I am so blown away by their support and how much my mom wants to be involved in the show. Truly I am ecstatic to go to this show!
Gotta give an honorable mention to my true love and ever-supportive boyfriend, he can't be here to support me directly through most of the year and he's kinda scared of horses in real life (though he won't admit it), he knows how much this hobby means to me and even was kinda sad when I was selling off my childhood carpet herd saying I should keep some because they are special! I am so happy I am surrounded by people who love and support me through and through - I couldn't be luckier than I am.
Anyways, enough gushing from me :) Next weekend I should have lots of show photos to share here!
This will be my personal blog I'll use to talk about the going-ons of my hobby experience and who knows what else with rambles.
